Flemenstar’s path for success in the campaign paved by trainer, Peter Casey
Trainer, Peter Casey, is all set for sending his seven-year-old bay gelding, Flemenstar, for more challenging and testing events and wants to begin with the Paddy Power Gold Cup over the weekend meeting at Cheltenham. His campaign has been set meticulously,
each milestone after the other. The connections are cautious to take up his trip gradually only. They are going to test him over longer trips only when he is ready for it.
His three-year campaign has been interesting. His actual potential check came in once he was done with his novice campaign. The Irish bay gelding ended fourth in the Grade 2 Coolmore N. H. Sires Ask & Getaway Novice Hurdle in April, 2011 at Fairyhouse.
A second position in a chase at Navan in November, and the Peter Casey trained never looked back, claiming all the six outings that came his way. The last four successes on his profile have originated from graded races.
The Grade 1 Frank Ward Solicitors Arkle Novice Chase at Leopardstown was over two miles and a furlong in January, and he won that in companionship with jockey, A. E. Lynch. The favourite entry defeated Gift Of Dgab by nineteen lengths.
His very next shot was at two miles and four furlongs, the three furlong difference in the trip did not impact his winning form. Flemensfirth’s bay gelding won the Grade 3 Naas Directors Plate Novice Chase on 11th March, 2012 at Naas. The 5 ½
length winning margin became possible with the same rider in the saddle.
The Stephen Curran owned had his next winning trip over the same distance in the Grade 1 Powers Gold Cup Chase at Fairyhouse in April.
The seven-year-old defeated Big Zeb by seven lengths in the Grade 2 Irish Form Book Fortria Chase at Navan on 11th November, 2012.
The trainer said: "Everything is grand this morning and we're very happy with him."
"He couldn't have done any more than he did yesterday. I see some people are still doubting him and whether he'll get three miles, but I don't think he'll have any trouble with the trip. He's a lovely, big horse and he idles a bit in front."
"People are talking about the Champion Chase and the Ryanair and I suppose we could look that way if for some reason he doesn't get three miles at Christmas, but that is not the plan at the moment. I'm confident he'll get the trip."
