Fleming/Hutchins battle past Dimitrov/Sweeting into 2nd round – Atlanta Tennis Championships 2011
A hard fought victory for the fourth seeded British duo of Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins, as they defeated the combination of Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria and Ryan Sweeting from the United States in the opening round of Atlanta
Tennis Championships Doubles on Wednesday afternoon in Atlanta, the United States.
The enthralling three-setter provided a treat to watch for the local crowd, with the two teams battling it extremely hard to come out as the winner. Fleming and Hutchins concluded victory by settling the final scores at 7-5, 6-7(5),
10-6, to make it to the quarter-finals of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 tournament.
The pair of Dimitrov and Sweeting hung in the contest for one hour and fifty minutes of play before they finally submitted in the third set to let their opponents away with victory. Fleming and Hutchins showed their excellent coordination
in the matchup to outplay their competitors in a thrilling battle, fully capitalizing upon their opponents’ errors throughout the game.
A regular game was seen from both pairs in the opening set, as they tend to play cautiously at the start and took the scores to 5-5 without a single serve break being registered. Finally, Fleming and Hutchins nailed the first serve
break of the day in the 12th game to finish of the opening set at 7-5,  getting a one-set lead in the contest.
The following set began with the similar manner as the first one did and no serve breaks were seen in the opening seven games. Dimitrov and Sweeting cashed in their chance this time to break the opponents’ serve in the eighth game,
only to be broken in the very next game to level the scores at 5-5. A tie breaker round was imposed in the second set after the scores got dead locked at 6-6 and Dimitrov and Sweeting shifted their gears to bag the second set at 7-6(5) to level the contest
at 1-1.
Fleming and Hutchins turned the tables on their competitors in the final set with their aggressive strategy and raced to victory at 10-6 in no time. Their win over Dimitrov and Sweeting earns them a berth in the quarter-finals
of the Atlanta Tennis Championships to be played on Thursday afternoon. Fleming and Hutchins will face off against the team of Igor Kunitsyn of Russia and Michael Russell of the United States in their next matchup to fight for a place in the semis of the tournament.
