Fleming/Hutchins overpower Chang/Li to enter quarters – China Open 2012
British duo, Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins, dumped the local wild card entrants, Yu Chang and Zhe Li, in straight sets at the China Open 2012 on Wednesday. They nudged up a 6-3, 6-2 victory against the Chinese tandem to secure a place in the quarter-finals
at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 500 Series event held in Beijing, China.
The high flying British collaboration showed exceptional co-ordination to outrun Chang and Li in their first encounter. After earning the fame in one hour and four minutes, Fleming and Hutchins advanced into the final eight at this outdoor hard court event
taking place from 28th September to seventh October.
Fleming and Hutchins made a comfortable entry at the National Tennis Center. They superbly warded off all three breakpoints they faced to keep their entire serves. The Brits required a single break of serve in the sixth game and clinched the opener with
a 6-3 success. They converted one out of eight break chances to their advantage to stay on track.
Ranked 13th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Doubles Rankings, Fleming and Hutchins improved their game in the final set. After Chang and Li kept their serve in the third game, the Brits unleashed barrage of groundstrokes and reeled
off last five games. They swiped their entire serves without facing any hindrance and cashed in two out of four break chances to prevail.
All in all, the Brits manifested a better first serve share of 72 per cent as compared to their rivals’ 69 per cent and impressively marked 26 out of 36 points on it. They smashed four aces and finished the deal with 58 points.
Next challenge for Brits is the third seeded tandem, Sweden’s Robert Lindstedt and Romania’s Horia Tecau, in the quarter-finals. The third seeds dumped the Spanish duo, David Marrero and Fernando Verdasco, in straight sets to set up this meeting. Lindstedt
and Tecau lost their serve once but capitalised on two out of four break chances to formulate a 7-6(3), 6-3 success. They also hammered nine aces and sealed the deal with 68 points.
