Fletcher hopes http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 tour will pay dividends - Cricket News Update
Indian cricket coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Harold-King-c63858 nation to play a one-off T20 against
the Proteas on Friday, March 30, 2012.
Since winning the World Cup last year, India’s performance home and away has been quite inconsistent. Whilst the world champions have been quite impressive at home, their offshore performance has been simply disappointing. Recently they have succumbed to
back-to-back away Test series in six months, against England and Australia, both with a 4-0 margin.
There one-day performance has been equally unimpressive as they lost the limited-over series to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
After a series of poor performances away from home, Fletcher feels such away series will provide the youngsters an experience of playing in different conditions, something that, according to Fletcher, will be one of the keys to finding consistency.
"We're trying to develop a young one-day squad and Twenty20 squad," said Fletcher speaking to the media reporters after reaching Johannesburg.
"These blokes have played well on the subcontinent… [We want to] expose them to different pressures and different conditions. From my point of view there is a lot of talent around, we just need to make sure we give them that experience they require," he
added further.
The one-off T20 between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and South Africa will be played less than a week before the grueling Indian Premier League, commencing in Chennai on April 4, 2012. The odd timing has been much criticized by the former Indian cricketers and pundits as they
feel it would be quite hectic for players to tour South Africa and then return home and get ready for IPL-5.
However, Dhoni did not agree that the fatigue factor will be there going into the IPL.
"I don't think fatigue will be a real factor," said Dhoni. "We all enjoy playing IPL. That's one format where you're not representing the country and the span of the tournament is slightly longer, you play quite a few games,” he added further.
