Question:

Flickering star or planet in southern sky?

I live in the Chicagoland area. Tonight I was out in the back yard looking at the southern sky. I noticed a very bright star or something that was pretty much slightly flickering with light.... This was almost directly south from Elgin, IL. How can I find out what this is? Star, or planet? I know it was not a satellite because it moved with everything else in the sky. Any advice on how to find out what this is, or anyone know what it might be? thanks!!

  1. I see the same object this morning at 6:30 am.  Very bright planet in the southern sky, is this Jupiter?  100x brighter than any other object.
