Flight- Baggage allowance question?

Ok I am travelling in a few weeks with my family of 5, 2 adults, 2 kids and 1 infant under 2. We are travelling with First choice. They never informed us that the infant gets no baggage allowance at all! I knew he wouldn't be entitles to hand luggage but surely they cannot be serious, that you are expected to take a baby away, the person in the family who comes with more cr@p than everyone else, nappies, wipes, bottles, xtra changes of clothing etc.... and not take anything with you for that person! My question is, if the remaining 4 travellers have a total of 60kg of luggage allowance (adults 20kg each and kids 10kg each) will we be allowed to pool the weight together? i.e if my 4 yr old had 13kg in his case and I had 17kg would that be ok? it would still add up to 30kg. I have read on other airline websites that they do it but first choice don't mention anything about this on theirs.

  1. No you cannot pull all the weight together as my husband and i normally just take 1 big case , which i though we would be in-titled to 40kg...............but when i read the luggage allowance (in the small print) if any member of your family is sharing a case you are in titled to 23kg so guess what ..............we bought another case!!!!!!

As regards to your baby your buggy is not taken into for weight but i do know what you mean .... How can any infant be referred to as having no luggage allowance, they have more than anybody, its like a flitting......... good luck x

  2. When I have travelled if all the baggage is checked in together,as long as it is not over your total allowance for the number of people travelling

i.e:- it shouldn't matter how many bags there are or the weight of each individual persons bag.

As airlines vary(especially charter)I would telephone them or ask your agent to find out for you.

  3. From their website:

The baggage allowance on board our airline for checked-in luggage is 20kg (44lbs) for *each person.*

    So no, you can't pool.

    Also from the website:

Children under the age of two on the date of their return flight currently have no baggage allowance.

  4. Not sure about First Choice but other airlines do as you say ie 20kg for an adult etc. but you cannot pool the weight of the luggage of all of your party. Surely you'll want to take a push chair for the kiddie so giving First Choice a call maybe the best thing to do!

  5. Hi - I travelled with Thomas Cook last year and like you was dispairing at the fact I had no baggage allowance for my little one considering all I had to carry.

I telephoned the Airline and was advised that they could add on an allowance of 10kg for the little one but I had to arrange it as it was not an automatic thing, and she then added it on for me for no charge.

I know this was a different airline but why dont you give them a ring and explain the circumstances and you never know.

If you dont ask you dont get.

  6. Sorry, you are only allowed 20k EACH PERSON, not including baby who does NOT qualify for any luggage allowance!! I agree with you they do usually need more than you, but you will have to forgo your own allowance in order to fit baby stuff in your remaining cases. YOU CANNOT POOL, so each CASE can weigh up to 20k (except Skytours, which is 15k)

I think the reason for the (cant pool) is that if you say, have a case weighing 14k and don't know it until you weigh it at the airport, then they can "save" the unused 6k for someone else who may have excess baggage. Don't know, it's just a theory.

However as from next year the baby will have a 10k

    allowance!!!

    Pushchair are free btw!!!
