Question:

Flight Scholarships for Teenager?

by  |  earlier

Hello! Im 16, and extremely attracted to planes!

I am eager to learn how to fly as soon as possible!

However, I face financial difficulties. I've been looking for flight scholarships but restricted to most because I am a legal non-citizen of US.

Any organizations you might advice? Or just any advice at all?

Thanks a lot, have a good day :)

  1. Aviation scholarships are few and far between. If you are a minority or female then you do have a chance, otherwise you'll be fighting for a few hundred bucks, hardly enough to do any real good.

There are a few options out there to help you save money. You can try to get a job at a flight school, they will give you a discount on aircraft rental and instructor rates.

You can find a flying club which offers fractional ownership of aircraft, plus a small monthly due to cover the cost of maintenance. This can happen several ways, from places that have a hundred people (around $50 and up to become a fractional owner) to just a few owners ($30,000 and up, WAY WAY up)

Get involved with the Civil Air Patrol. They offer very low rental rates and you are sure to make friends with an instructor. If you can get that instructor to give instruction in the CAP plane, they cannot charge any fees (you should bring them breakfast or lunch).  Very cheap way to go.

Get a job at places that offer tuition reimbursement. I know UPS offers up to $3,000 a semester towards your education, I don't know if they would accept flight school or not but its worth asking. combine this with any of the suggestions I've given you and it will really help out.
