Sorry if the title doesn't do much, but I am 14 and I really want to get my wings. I know i am too young but for future knowledge where can I get flight lessons.

I live in southern california.

I need a program for 16 year olds if possible.

thanks.

  1. Don't listen to the first guy above. You don't need to wait any longer and there are a lot of things you can do to give you a head start on flying. While you can't solo until you're 16, and can't be licensed until 17, you can still take some flight lessons as long as you are big enough to see out of the cockpit and you can reach all the controls. More importantly there are all kinds of activities that will give you some valuable experience and personal contacts. Also, you can take a ground school class any time and start learning the stuff you will need to know. Here are some ideas:

    1) Join the Civil Air Patrol. You will meet all kinds of great people and learn all kinds of useful stuff (such as aviation safety and search and rescue), plus you will get some orientation flights as part of their youth program. Put your time in (volunteer) and you may eventually be checked out to fly their plane(s) once you have earned a private pilots license. This can be a very inexpensive time builder and good experience too.

    2) Join a soaring club (gliders). Most have active youth programs and this is how I started at age 13. You can actually solo in a glider as young as 14 and you can be licensed at 16. Gliding is great experience and will unarguably make you a better pilot later on. The people involved in this sport can be really great too and teenagers are more than welcome in most of the clubs I've been associated with.  Here's a link to check out: www.socalsoaring.com/index.php?page=yout...

    3) Join the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) See www.youngeagles.org/programs/. Go to meetings and events and get to know people. Again, many folks will be happy to advise and mentor you, and eventually you may hook up with someone who will give you a little "stick time" just because they like you and want to help you out.

    4) Check out the FAA's free youth academy. Go here: http://www.faa.gov/education_research/ed...

None of this costs much, if any money, so if you don't do at least one of those four things, then you probably aren't really interested in flying that much.  Just being around planes and aviation people is a good start, whether you take lessons right away or not. Good luck and have fun. Don't wait.

Email me what city you live in and I'll give you some specific places to check out.

  2. just wait a little longer because you cant get  a private pilots certificate until your 17 then go to your local airport. email me what part of socal  your in and I'll find specific  flight schools for you . I'm taking flight lessons in San Diego

  3. You can start by looking into ultralight or sport pilot flight instruction.  This may not help a whole lot but in Northern California we have a school for that.  It is http://www.freedomfield.com and you might be able to find something similar in Southern California.  Check it out.  There might be links in their ads that will have something for Southern California.  It's a start.  Good luck!

  4. I  would agree with the first guy about waiting until your a little older because unless your dad owns a plane it would be to expensive to stay proficient
