  1. Yes, it IS very competitive, there are far more applicants than openings at any given time. It is NOT true that airlines rarely hire new people, they hire them all the time, but they also recruit other workers from within the company who show promise.  Being bi-lingual can really help a lot, so take an appropriate foreign language course while you are still in school. I would NOT go to a school that supposedly trains you to be a flight attendant and then guarantees you an interview with somebody. That is not the same as guaranteeing you a job. These FA "prep schools" are not worth the money and they don't teach you much that cannot be learned on your own.   Avoid regional airlines if you can (much lower pay) or any major airline still operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Final advice, take ANY job you can get at an airline such as baggage handler or aircraft cleaner and then switch to being a CSR or Flight Attendant when there is an opening. They do hire people from within that are clean-cut good workers who show up on time, are cheerful and get along with other employees and the public.  Good luck
