so this might sound silly, but I'm flying by myself for the first time and i was just wondering what the general checking in/baggage process was? I'm flying continental so i was going to check in online since they offer that option. but do i still have to go to the departures desk and all that stuff? i'm really clueless about how it all works.

  1. The fastest and easiest way to do it is as follows.

    1. Go to http://www.tsa.gov/311/ and read the information about what you can and cannot take through airport security. This can save you a lot of time and hassle at the airport.

    2. Check in online at Continental's website before you go to the airport.

    3. If there are lines at the counter to check bags, then use a skycap instead. It is customary to tip $1-$2 a bag, but it can save a lot of time. If there is no line at the counter, then check your bags there. In either case, have your boarding pass and identification ready.

If you don't have any bags to check, then just go straight to the security check.

    4. Go through security. Again, have your boarding pass and identification available.

    5. Check your gate on the monitor, walk to your gate, and enjoy your trip.
