Flight to el salvador?

I'm going to visit my dad for Christmas this December but ticket prices are sky high. The cheapest I found was for a little over a 1,000 dollars, should I use a travel agent or buy tickets online? I'm a student and very low budget any tips or ideas would be appreciated.

I WENT TO EL SALVADOR  2:] LAST CHRISTMAS AND THE BEST OPTION IS TO GO  TO A TRAVEL AGENT  MY MOM GOT  TICKETS LIKE IN SEP AND SHE GOT  THEM REALLY CHEAP BECAUSE  WE WENT  IN LA MEXICANA  WHICH IS REALLY CHEAP [WELL LAST YEAR] I THINK IF U WANT A LOWER PRICE INSTEAD OF GOIN NON-STOP  U SHOULD MAKE A STOP IS WAY CHEAPER.....[  IF UR GOIN IN TACA IS WAY EXPENSIVE PLUS LA MEXICANA HAS GREAT SERVICE VERY NICE I RECOMMENDED] HERE IS THE WEBSITE...MEXICANA.COM

sorry, but you are going to el salvador in december....the busiest travel month TO el salvador.  ALL flights will be full very soon.  

employ the use of a travel agent that specializes in latin america flights.  if you do not live in an area of town with lots of latinos......go to one and find an agent.  they will charge you a fee however.

or better yet.....try .........kayak.com  put your date in and it will check the lowest fare and WHERE the lowest fare is on the net.....THEN you go to that website and book it.

there is also a company called "council travel" and another one called "SSG" or SGT" or something like that.  it is a student travel center, but i doubt they will have anything but mexico and costa rica flights.

i just went to KAYAK.COM and found $789 pp. and it said to go to american airlines webiste......or cheeptickets.com......i booked dec 7 through dec 28 from Seattle to San Salvador.

Los Angeles is the cheapest and maybe Miami or Dallas.  

try to go as early in december as you can....or earlier.  the price will go lower as you go earlier.  also, try to go midweek if you can.  the first few days in january are also busy for the return.

I just go to the specific airlines website check out the price, sometimes airline do have some last minute deals. But the planes are going to fill fast.

Been flying to Centeral America for over ten years and for most of the international flights the airlines do as good as kayak or cheaptickets or expedia. And a couple of times I went to book and there wasn't anything available.

I have used a travel agent don't think I ever got a screaming deal.

And yes ,fares are going to be up for the season and airports busy.

Spend a some time looking up fares and compare.

I've always got my tickets from http://www.travelocity.com. But now, with the issue of the gasoline price, tickets fares are sky high!! Especially to countries like El Salvador. What i suggest to do its to keep tracking prices on line DAILY. Sometimes, suddenly prices go down a bit for a few hours.

In addition, try to customize your search carefully to get best results. For example, look for flights on Tuesday or Wednesday, prices are cheaper in this week days.

Try the fare chase option on Yahoo to see if you get a good deal.

Another thing good to do is to talk to any travel agent to compare prices with the found on line.

Find a cheap flight to El Salvador is almost impossible, but you may be able to find a good deal by dedicating time to the search.

ADVICE: Do not buy tickets with Taca because they have expensive prices than other airlines and the service is not good (even they are a Salvadorean airline!)
