Flights dearer around christmas?

Has anybody found that flights seem to be more expensive around Christmas time. I would have expected a flight on 25th December to be dearer but i searched around mid Dec and mid Jan and found them to be more expensive for a particular flight. Is this the norm across the board? Thanks

The days surrounding Christmas are some of the busiest travel days of the year.  Accordingly, fares become more expensive due to increased demand (in other words, airlines charge more because people will pay to get where they're going).

Christmas Day is, generally speaking, a less busy day to travel because people will want to be at their destination on that day.  The few days before and after, however, are always busier because people are trying to get to where they're going (or go home afterwards).

yes it is due to volume of people wishing to travel, they put the prices up so because they can and they know people will pay the rising prices. Its the same with national express, I booked an early ticket for the 23rd of December thinking it will cost less if I give plenty of notice, I was wrong

Ya that's normal for flights. Since everyone likes to visit family and friends during the Holidays, there has to be a lot more flights, so, the $ has to be higher. Sorry.

hi there I work for BA and the weeks leading up to christmas are generally very busy due to the high volumes of traffic around that time if you wanted to fly christmas day that is the day that we put our fares down so will be a bit cheaper to fly. best thing is to hold off and if you really want to fly around christmas you may pick up a bargain on the day as I said the fares will drop christmas day.

Yes. during the christmas time, everybody wants to fly out to their family and friends and spend the holiday with them. due to the high volume, airlines charge more to make more money
