Andrew Flintoff has termed Sachin Tendulkar as the best batsman of the modern day cricket. While admiring his play, Flintoff termed Tendulkar’s second innings Test century against England, played back in 2008 at Chennai, as his best-ever.
“And we thought we are going to win the test match. But Sachin had other ideas. He scored a hundred. I am never good at losing. However, at that instance it was fitting that Sachin, the splendid batsman from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820, hit the winning runs,” said Flintoff.
The English player was not only impressed by the quality of game depicted by Tendulkar, he also admired the Indian gesture and treatment his team experienced after the match. Flintoff revealed that the hosts had complete acknowledgement of the courage of
the visiting team which it had showed while coming back to play India when others had serious security concerns. He said that the moment was rather poignant for him and rest of the team.
English team had to leave the seven-match series in between and left for home amid the three-day siege of the city by terrorists. However, the team soon came back to resume the tour.
Besides his play, another point about Tendulkar which inspired the English player was his longevity. He said,
“He is an amazing man and a successful player. To play for so long as he has and to score so many runs as he has is amazing.”
Flintoff disclosed his longing for always getting Tendulkar out as he wanted to impress him and to earn his respect. He wished good luck to the massive hitter and hoped his journey would not end after accomplishing 50 centuries record and he would continue
to be a good ambassador for the game.
Flintoff has expressed his admiration for the legendary batsman at a time when Brian Lara has also praised the pillar of Indian batting order and has declared him the Don Bradman of the modern times Cricket. When asked by a reporter to comment on Lara’s
statement, Flintoff opposed the idea of comparing heroes and said Sachin was the best in modern day cricket.
Commenting upon the times when Tendulkar would no longer be a part of Indian cricket team, Flintoff said that it would create void in the team and the country would be really bothered about the issue. However, he refused to dwell upon the matter further
and said that since Sachin was still playing well, was at the apex of his career and making runs consistently, he could still carry on playing for a long time.
The former English all rounder said that India along with the other countries of the sub-continent would be rather favourite for the coming World Cup. However, he also regarded South Africa as a strong contestant for the event.
