Flintoff amazed at ECB’s fine on Pietersen – Cricket News Update
Former England all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 for publicly questioning the appointment of Nick Knight as a home Tests commentator for
Sky Sports, the board’s official broadcaster.
“Found it amazing that @kevinpp24 got fined for criticising a bloke who gets paid to criticise!” read Flintoff’s own post on the micro-blogging site Twitter.
The incident occurred earlier this week when Pietersen took to Twitter to express his disbelief at the appointment of former England batsman Nick Knight as a commentator for Test matches on
Sky Sports. Knight has played 17 Tests at 23.96, while Pietersen is a veteran of 84 Tests, with 20 Test centuries to his credit.
“Can somebody please tell me how Nick Knight has worked his way into the commentary box for the Tests?? Ridiculous” read the tweet in question.
The remarks drew an immediate response from the ECB, who summoned Pietersen to a disciplinary hearing with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 cricket). In addition, the 31-year-old was also fine an undisclosed
sum for having issued remarks which were “prejudicial to the interests of the ECB and a breach of the England player conditions of employment in relation to clauses regarding public statements.”
The board has a deal worth £280 million with the Sky Sports network, which has the rights to broadcast live matches (both international and County), and this forms a main part of the ECB’s income. Along with the reprimands issued by the board, Test
captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964 also spoke out to warn the national players against misuse of the social networking site.
In addition to expressing support for his former teammate, Flintoff, a veteran of 79 Tests and 141 ODIs, who retired from the game in 2010, also went on to add that he was glad he had not been on Twitter during his time with the national team, suggesting
that he too would have been unable to restrain himself from speaking his mind.
“Just as well I wasn't on twitter when I played . Would have been fined everyday.”
