Question:

Floaters and spots?

In the last few months I've noticed an increase in floaters, spots and flashes in my vision and I'm wondering if its something I should be concerned about. I'm 26 and am nearsighted (-6.5). I usually always have a few floaters whether I'm wearing contacts or not. I very often see blue, white or yellow dots throughout the day. This was never a regular thing for me. Also about a month ago on two occassions my vision became very blurry for a few minutes while wearing my glasses.

I do not recall having banged my head or injured my face or eyes in any way.

Is an appointment recommended or is this fairly normal stuff that could be caused by lack of sleep or eye strain?

  1. I have a TON of floaters!  I seem them a lot when I'm looking at the computer screen (like right now) or when I look at the sky or a white wall.  I have had them for 5 years and have went to at LEAST 7 doctors to get them checked out.  The doctors said I didn't have a detachment and that they were ok.  I'd get them checked out at least once to make sure you don't have a retinal detachment.  Other than that, I can tell you- everyone has floaters, just not everyone can see them.  Good Luck to you!

  2. its rentinal detachment. u can go blind. go to eye doctor por favor!!!!!!!!!!

  3. It's common to experience floaters, especially if you are near-sighted. But, you have some flashes as well, which could be a sign of a detached or torn retina. Retinal detachments can happen even if you have not injured yourself. I definitely suggest that you mention it to a doctor. More than likely, it's nothing serious, but it's better safe than sorry.
