Floating for the first time?

I have just sold my pony who is about 4 years old. She has never been in a float and she has been sold to a lovely home about 3 hours away. I will be doing some work with her over the next couple of weeks getting her in the float etc. but am worried about such a long trip when she is still not used to it. They lady who is taking her is experienced but I still have my concerns.

Has anyone ever had experience with this sort of thing?

  1. She'll be fine.  Our gelding's first long trailer trip was 22 hours.  He was only taken out once for about 3 hours.  Then he loaded back up and continued on his way.  Had no trouble at all.

If the lady is experienced...she knows what to listen and feel for if a horse is having a fit or trouble in the trailer.

I've sold horses that had to travel 5 or more hours to their new homes.  Always received a call that everything went well...

    Don't worry...it should be fine.

  2. just practice loading her alot, but not too much or shell get worn out on it.  try feeding her i nthe trailer so she thinks it means good things.  take her for short trips and tell the new lady to stop a couple times on the way home to make sure shes okay but she should be fine

  3. 3 hours is nothing to concern yourself over.
