If you have flood insurance and the government declares your area a disaster area, does your insurance pay for the damage or does the government?

  1. The insurance company works the claim. The insurance company cuts the check and is paid back by the federal government.

    Flood insurance is sold through the NFIP. However, claims are worked by flood certified adjusters with your insurance company. The money - comes from the federal government.

  3. Flood insurance (in the U.S.) IS the federal government.  It's just administered through commercial insurance companies.  If you carry flood insurance, you don't need a "disaster declaration" to file a claim.
