Flooded ground washes any chances of ODI between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 - Cricket News Update
The lone One Day International between Scotland and England, scheduled for August 12, has been called off by the Scottish authorities due to flooding at the venue. The extensive rains took its toll on the Scottish summer, leaving their
cricket soaked to the skin.
"This is a hugely frustrating decision that Cricket Scotland have had to make, but we could not justifiably take the risk of building on a ground so saturated from a major flood and six weeks of consistent rain.” http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Smith-c90598, the Cricket
Scotland chief executive said.
"The build is only two weeks away and with an unsettled forecast for the remainder of July we have had to make a decision based on the facts presented to us and the professional advice we have taken. We have been faced with an unprecedented
and sustained period of rain that has, unfortunately, taken the season's biggest game from us.” added further.
Even though the match is two weeks away, Scotland cricket has decided not to risk building temporary facilities on the ground in order to prevent long term damage. English Cricket Board and Cricket Scotland held discussions about moving the fixture to another
ground but given the limited team to prepare, it leaves the fixture out of question until 2014.
The cricketing venture was part of the deal between ECB, Cricket Scotland and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 to help promote cricket in the expanse, with England playing both sides every alternate year however, worst weather conditions in over 20 years have hindered the promotion
of cricket in the Scottish region this calendar year.
Calling off the fixture will bring relief for the director of English cricket, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, leaving the management to play its second string, a stance
which has already come under considerable scrutiny.
The summer of 2013 will see the English team hosting http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Champions Trophy and the all-important Ashes series, leaving no room to accommodate a One-Day until the summer of 2014.
