  1. wow, you've already recieved some good answers.

the addition i can make to the information you've already been supplied is this:

floods are often severe in the towns and cities in australia.

because australia is a drought prone continent, floods have become rare since before the time of european settlement. this has led to many australian towns and cities to have been built on flood plains. this means that on the rare occassions when floods do happen, towns and cities can be severely effected.

  2. no there not that bad in the victoria and western australia area, because we are in a massive draught at the moment, but there tends to be alot up in queensland each year.

  3. The link below talks about different kinds of flooding in Australia and has links to info about some of the big floods we've had.

  4. There's a tsunami coming ya'lll it's coming riiight fooor uussss@@!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Brisbane had a flood in 1974.

  6. The last big wet and flood in Queensland was back in 1974, when the whole east coast was very wet and more so in Brisbane. The Brisbane river was flowing at 15 knots as my partner had a small boat on the river which sunk and he said there was hundreds of drums floating down the river, filled with many different sort of things.

Then the Sunshine Coast had Wet Wednesday which was 22nd of June 1983. 250mm of rain fell in just over 3 hours. and caused millions of dollars damage.

  7. Most of the others are correct, however there are currently floods in Queensland which are not getting reported, plus there will soon be big ones in Victoria because the drought will break in about two years, and the Yarra and Maribyrnong rivers will cause catastrophic flooding because the Govt. is too blinded by climate change ideology. Also the site they have chosen for a de-salination plant is a bog that is only good for rice growing.

  8. im australian and i can tell you that In northern Australia, most of the big floods occur in summer or early autumn in association with tropical cyclones or intense monsoonal depressions. These systems can produce staggering quantities of rainfall - as much as 1,000 millimetres in a few days. Outside the tropics, coastal areas of eastern Australia mostly receive their flood rains from so-called "east coast lows" that develop over the Tasman Sea. In the southern states, flooding is mostly a winter-spring phenomenon, associated with unusually frequent low pressure systems and fronts. However some major events have occurred in the summer half-year as systems of tropical origin extend or move south. Some inland floods, notably those of Lake Eyre, may be initiated by rain falling many hundreds of kilometres away.

up in the north it happens quite reguraly but im down south in melbourne and the last real bad flood we had was Boxing Day 2004. glad to help :)
