does it save more gas to accelerate aggressively to come to a cruising speed faster or accelerate slower until you get to that same cruising speed. my thinking is the less time you press the gas pedal at a certain pressure, the less gas is used versus depressing the pedal for a longer time waiting to build up to a cruising speed.

wouldn't it bring the average down if you're sitting at 10-15mpg longer while waiting to raech cruising speed as opposed to a shorter period at 7-10mpg when giving more gas? i watch my mileage meter in my car and it seems to make sense. when i'm cruising and on flat level, my meter reads 30-35mpg. i can reach that level sooner when accelerating faster. when i accelerate slower, it takes longer to reach that point. and the time between point A to B at the cruising speed is less this way.

does this make sense to anyone? anyone have any input or solid confirmation that one saves more/less gas than the other?

  1. slow down to save gas

quick acceleration and breaking use more gas

    slow down

  2. accelerate slowly keeping the revs within the economy range of the engine with is 2000 to mac 4000 rps so reasonable accelerate is best neither snails pace or foot to floor.

imagian there is an egg on the accelerator (brake as well) !! thats the best way to drive. gentle and smooth!
