Anyway, my father received an important document on a floppy disk. Why couldn't someone send them on a CD/DVD? Well, it didn't.

Every time I Want to open the it an see the files, it gives me this error:

"A:\ not accessible

No ID address mark was found on the floppy disk."

He tried to send this by email like 5 days ago and I haven't received it yet. That's why he put on a disk. So, if I don't open this I don't know what will happen.

How am I supposed to open it?

  1. If your floppy drive is showing up correctly in Device Manager and you have checked all of your cables and jumper settings then you may have a bad floppy or floppy drive.

  2. for a start have you tried another machine as it could be the floppy. Have you tried another disk in yours.

You could always try to get them to put it on a flash drive

The error sound like a dead drive or port

  3. just to be certain, you both have PC's? one is not a mac???

First reboot the system and get into the BIOS. check your setting and see if the floppy drive is enabled. if not enable it, save and exit.

second boot to windows then go into Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>Disk Drives. see if the floppy is there and there are no yellow ! on it. if its working close it all out.

last look at the disk its self, is the write protect tab unlocked? try a different floppy in the drive. if it works then the disk its self may be damaged or the file may not have saved. he did format it before trying to save any data right???

  4. This can be a failed drive on your machine, when not used for a long time they do tend to become gummed up. This would need a new drive. It could also be the sender's drive is worn and is incorrectly placing the data, which would still be easily readable on their drive but not work on any other. Apart from trying on another machine you would be better getting them to send it again in another way. This was a problem with floppies when they were in common use.
