Why was florence so important during the italian renaissence?!

  1. That is sort of like asking why is air important to breathing. Florence was pretty much the home of the Renaissance - most of the patrons and artists were either from here or came through here at some point. The Medici and the other powerful banking families made Florence the most important city in the world for a while (and probably most wealthy), and their interest in the classics and antiquities helped to foster new movements in the arts.   2. Florence is also known as the cradle of Renaissance. A lot of artists, architects and thinkers were living there at the time and left their mark in the city and we can enjoy all the remarkable things they've done now...
