Florent Malouda: Chelsea will prove worth against Manchester City and Arsenal
Chelsea winger Florent Malouda insisted that his team will prove critics wrong and establish their English Premier League title credentials when they take on Manchester City and Arsenal.
The defending league champions have got the new EPL campaign off to a flying start, having scored 21 goals in five games and conceded just once. But those victories have come over the likes of Wigan Athletic, West Ham United, Stoke City, Blackpool and West
Bromwich Albion. Several pundits have said Chelsea’s comprehensive victories do not mean much since they have not been against the league’s bigger teams.
Malouda has refuted those claims and said the matches against big-spenders City and Arsenal — both of which will be played over the next two weeks — will prove once and for all that Chelsea means business when it comes to retaining their title.
The France international told reporters today that, “People don't believe what we have done up until now has been that great because they say we have had easy games. This will show we're ready for any kind of opposition. A lot of people see these two games
as a test, but we're ready. For us it could be our opportunity to prove that we're champions and we will defend our title at any price. Both will be tough opponents but we have confidence in ourselves and the way we are working.”
Malouda cited the match against City as one he and his teammates were looking forward to, as the Eastlands outfit won both of the sides’ encounters last season. He said that, "Manchester City were the only team to do the double over us last season and that
could be a big motivation for us. I know they're getting better and bought a lot of good players. Last year was difficult for us but we'll go there to try and get the points.”
