Florent Malouda Reveals Ray Wilkins’ Strain
Chelsea winger Florent Malouda admitted that the departure of assistant coach Ray Wilkins had its effects on the team. The Frenchman was trying to give some sort of explanation for the Blues’ recent run of bad form, which has seen
them sink to fourth position on the Premier League table.
Since the departure of Ray Wilkins from Stamford Bridge, the Blues have had a particularly bad spell. It has been hard to understand, especially considering the fact that they are defending champions and had an amazing start to
the season. However, after Wilkins left, the Blues picked up six points where they could have taken 21.
Malouda revealed that Wilkins’ departure had indeed affected the players, and it was part of the reason for their sudden poor form. The French winger admitted to the recent poor performances, but insisted that they were working
hard to improve and would soon come out of their slump.
Malouda said in a statement, “Ray was close to the players and in training he was involved in the animation of the sessions. It was a big strain to see him leave like this and we were not prepared for that. I first heard what
had happened in the afternoon when it was announced. It was a shock.”
The Chelsea winger refused to use Wilkins departure as the only reason why his side was underperforming. He was determined they could return to winning ways with stability.
He said the initial shock of his departure had worn off and the squad was slowly working towards returning to their regular selves, which in short meant they would improve their form.
Malouda commented on the title race and explained how it was more open than last season. The Chelsea winger said that his side’s main aim was to defend the title and they were aware of the fact that every result contributed towards
it. He said he believed being consistent was the key to winning the title for the second time in a row.
Malouda remained confident ahead of the clash against Manchester United, the winger maintained his belief that his side could still win the Premier League title. He said, “We will have to fight on a few fronts. City are there
now, Arsenal, United, as we know and teams like Tottenham are pushing from behind. So we have to be at our best. But if we are at our best I think we can win it.”
