Florent Malouda: Wembley final is Champions League omen
Chelsea winger Florent Malouda has reason to believe that his team can finally capture that elusive UEFA Champions League title this season as the final of the competition will be held at England’s national stadium, Wembley.
The stadium has been a happy hunting ground for Chelsea over the last few years as the defending English Premier League champions have won three of the last four FA Cups at the London stadium.
Since Roman Abramovich took over the club in 2003, Chelsea have won every domestic trophy but have yet to deliver the European glory their owner craves. They came close to doing so in 2008, however, but lost a penalty shoot-out to Manchester United in the
final in Moscow.
Europe a 'big objective for club'
Malouda believes that this will be the year that the Blues win the Champions League. The France international told reporters today that: "It is a sign for us that the Champions League final is being played at Wembley. We have won there a lot in recent years
and it's a big objective for the club. Our aim is to be there again in May and to win. We love playing there as we have shown by winning three FA Cups in the last four years.
"We have a good feeling every time we go there and maybe it is our destiny to be there in May. That's what I wish and every player in the squad is thinking about that in their minds. We have to be ready to get through the group phase now but we have to be ready
for the knockout phase as well."
Chelsea got their European campaign off to a flying start when they beat MSK Zilina 4-1 in the opening group stage game last night. They are also in stellar form in the EPL, having won all four of their matches so far and have scored 17 goals in the process.
