Florent Malouda urges his teammates to show “extra character and motivation”
Florent Malouda believes Chelsea FC’s home form will be crucial if they are to defend their English Premier League crown.
Malouda had a frustrating outing at Anfield when his side lost 2-0 against Liverpool FC in the Premier League. Unlike The Reds, the side from West London had a slow start to the game and found themselves a goal down, thanks to
a strike from Fernando Torres. The Spaniard was the villain for Chelsea once again, as he doubled his tally by netting in another goal on the stroke of half time.
Although Carlo Ancelotti’s men came back strong after the interval and went close to scoring, it was too little too late, as Liverpool’s defence stood firm to register a clean sheet.
The defeat was The Blues’ second of the campaign, which also saw their lead at the top of the table cut to just 2 points. Although their away form has not been impressive, Chelsea have been impeccable at home. They have won all
5 matches that they have played in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge, while scoring 16 goals without reply; a truly amazing record.
The fixtures are coming thick and fast in the league and the French international reiterated the importance of the performing well at home during the coming weeks.
He said, “We have a lot of important games in a row in December, and the more points we have before then the better it is. We always have a great feeling when we play at home in front of our fans, we have achieved some great results
in the past, beating a lot of big teams, and sometimes we were given a hard time but at home we have that extra character and motivation that can help us come back from bad situations.”
Malouda has had an excellent start to this season and he sits on top of the scoring chart in the Premier League with 7 goals.
The French winger expects his teammates to move on from their futile trip to Anfield and hopes for a strong Chelsea display at The Bridge.
Florent said, “We expect a reaction because our challengers are closing the gap and even though we are still first, we want to increase the gap. I would say that every time we put in a good performance we are unbeatable at home
or away, but sometimes like on Sunday it is difficult to start a game due to some circumstances, but all that matters is the result. Obviously it is a great opportunity for us first to react to defeat, and then to increase that gap on top of the league."
Chelsea will be involved in the West London derby with Fulham FC, while their title challengers Manchester United will feature in the Manchester derby on Wednesday night.
