Florent Manaudou seizes Men’s 50m freestyle gold – London Olympic Games
French freestyle veteran, Florent Manaudou seized gold medal of the Men’s 50m freestyle on seventh day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in London Aquatics Centre on Friday, August 3.
Manaudou qualified into the playoff as sixth fastest swimmer, but with his unrelenting efforts in the playoff, he outsmarted his opponents and reached the finishing blockade for gold medal.
The 21-year-old Manaudou not only devastated hopes of his opponents but he also surpassed the world record holder of the discipline, Cesar Cielo of Brazil on the finishing end.
He remained one stroke ahead of his following swimmer and occupied gold medal of the discipline by reporting a time of 21.34 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Cullen Jones of USA, who remained only 0.20 seconds apart and reached the medal rostrum for silver medal by clocking a time of 21.54 seconds.
Jones was followed by Cielo, who stayed 0.05 seconds slower from his former finisher and finished third in the discipline by reporting a time of 21.59 seconds for bronze medal.
Cielo was followed by his teammate, Bruno Fratus, who stayed 0.02 seconds behind and secured fourth fastest spot of the discipline by posting an effort of 21.61 seconds.
Similarly, Fratus enjoyed a benefit of 0.17 seconds over Anthony Ervin of USA, who showed his urgency towards the finishing wall for fifth position by posting a time of 21.78 seconds.
Ervin was traced by Roland Schoeman of South Africa, who remained 0.02 seconds away from overpowering his former finisher and surfaced on the wall as sixth fastest swimmer with an effort of 21.80 seconds.
Seventh position of the single lap race was chased by George Richard Bovell of Trinidad and Tobago, who suffered a loss of 0.02 seconds from his preceding swimmer and posted an effort of 21.82 seconds.
Subsequently, Eamon Sullivan of Australia was unable to outsmart any of his competitors and ended his race in eighth best place by clocking a time of 21.98 seconds.
Manaudou was extremely contented with his victory in the 50m discipline and articulated his desire of improving the world record in future.
