Florent Serra defeats Simone Bolelli 6-3, 6-4
World number 136 Florent Serra of France upset seventh seed Simone Bolelli of Italy in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in the second round at the BNP Paribas Polish Open in Sopot, Poland on Wednesday. The match lasted for one hour and 23
minutes.
Serra needed a single break of serve in the opening set to win it 6-3. The French hit 56 percent of the first serves and two aces in the first set. The five feet and eleven inches tall sealed 50 percent of the second service points
and 43 percent of the second return points in the opening set. Serra converted one of the two break points he received on the Italian’s serve and saved the only break point he faced on his own serve in the first set.
The French was looking to seal the match quickly as he broke Bolelli in the first game of the second set and held his next service game to grab a 2-0 lead. However, the Italian broke back in the eighth game to level the score at
4-4. Serra captured two consecutive games after that, winning the set 6-4. The French won eleven of the 21 first return points in the second set.
Serra is slated to face compatriot Eric Prodon, seeded fourth at the event, in the last eight.
Eric Prodon beats Adrian Ungur 6-3, 6-4
French Eric Prodon, ranked 103rd in the world, knocked out world number 155 Adrian Ungur in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals.
Prodon came roaring into the match, breaking the Romanian in the second game of the opening set and consolidating on it to race to a 3-0 lead. Ungur fought back, breaking the French in the sixth game to level the score at 3-3.
It was all Prodon show after that as he claimed three successive games to seal the set 6-3. The 30-year-old kept his first serve percentage at 58 percent and claimed an incredible 93 percent of the first service points in the first set. Prodon clinched two
of the four break points he received on the Romanian’s serve in the opening set.
The French broke Ungur in the seventh game of the second set and capitalised on it to win the set 6-4. The Paris resident fired three aces and bagged eight of the eighteen first return points in the second set. The right-handed
won 67 percent of the second return points. The match lasted for an hour and two minutes.
