Florentyna Parker stands firm after the second round of Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open 2012
English Florentyna Parker stood strong in the second round of the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open 2012, as she posted a 71 to maintain her second position on the leaderboard.
Parker appeared to be in high spirits, as she played comfortably on most of the holes in the second round.
The English started her round in a cautious style, as she avoided messing up her scorecard. She parred the first eight holes, indicating that she was not under pressure.
She, however, faltered on the 9th hole on the front nine, as she recorded a double bogey. On the back nine, Parker came up with a solid strategy and shot three birdies.
Although the second day saw strong winds sweeping through, the rising star remained calm and composed, thanks to strong nerve control.
Parker stunned the spectators when she drained two straight birdies on the tricky par-3 11th and the 12th hole. She, then, shot another birdie on the 17th to consolidate her position on the leaderboard.
Analysts said that due to the sensible start she made in the opening round, the English golfer was in a comfortable position. She posted a 66 in the first round, which helped her grab the second spot on the leaderboard.
Aussie Rebecca Artis displayed a stellar performance in the second round as well and stood firm at the top spot.
Although Artis could not play as good as she did in the opening round, she still maintained a considerable lead over her nearest rivals.
Parker came close to sharing the lead with Artis, but the devastating double bogey on the 9th hole tainted her position.
Commentators said that the English star could have troubled the Aussie golfer if she had played a little more sensibly. They said that the golfing sensation can atone for her lapses in the next two rounds.
“I played really well the first six, seven holes and had a lot of chances and made them and then the front nine, I missed all my birdie putts, had a few opportunities and doubled the ninth, which was a shame,” the favourite star said.
“I played really well the last two days and I’ve got a good chance and I’m looking forward to the weekend”.
