Flori Lang clinches Men’s 50m back-stroke title in Stockholm: Day two – 2011 FINA World Cup
Switzerland’s Flori Lang dominated proceedings on day two of the second round at the 2011 FINA World Cup series, in Stockholm, Sweden, on Sunday, October 16. The session of the meet conducted the Men’s 50m back-stroke final event.
Flori Lang was up against tough contestants, Niklas Borin and Lavrans Solli in the 50m back-stroke final race. Lang began the final heat in thrilling fashion and went full throttle by touching the finishing wall with an inspiring mark of 24.46 seconds to
clinch gold title over his rivals.
In the meantime, Columbia’s young athlete, Niklas Borin powered the finishing wall with a breathtaking time of 25.01 seconds to win silver medal of the meet. On the other hand, Norway’s Lavrans Solli gave the best attempt in the race and earned bronze medal
after he touched the wall by posting a time of 25.08 seconds.
The final heat produced some other scintillating results, as Hungary’s David Verraszto picked fourth spot with a time of 25.28 seconds. Columbian athlete Sebastian, Holmberg produced an interesting splash and wound up fifth with a time of 25.30 seconds.
Meanwhile, Norway’s athlete, Sverre Naess settled for sixth place after he touched the finishing wall in the respective meet and posted an impressive time of 25.52 seconds.
Additionally, Columbian young athlete, Alexander Nystrom earned seventh place honours by posting a time of 25.61 seconds. Moreover, Columbia’s Pontus Palmqvist settled for eighth spot after he touched the wall and ended his swim in a time of 25.97 seconds.
The impressive efforts of all young athletes touched the hearts of the arena and the top three winning contestants were awarded medals and cash prizes after the session’s completion.
The 2011 FINA World Cup, Stockholm, is an exciting opportunity for young guns of Sweden to prepare hard for their futuristic meets of swimming which includes the 2012 London Olympic Games. This FINA World Cup is a seven stop series and the next round of
the event is set to take place in Moscow, Russia, from October 18-19.
