Florian Mayer blows away Viktor Troicki to win tie for Germany at Power Horse World Team Cup
Blistering start for Germany at the Power Horse World Team Cup, as it completely white washed Serbia 3-0 in the opening tie of the Round Robin on Monday. In the second singles rubber, Florian Mayer devastated Viktor Troicki of
Serbia to assist Germany to an emphatic victory.
Mayer concluded his straight sets victory at 6-2, 6-2, in merely 54 minutes to inflict an irreparable damage to Team Serbia.
Being played at the Rochusclub in Dusseldorf, Germany, world number 16, Troicki suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the 21st ranked German to lead his side down at the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals)
World Tour 250 event. Mayer beat his opponent in every segment of the game and had no difficulty in dispensing out the Serbian from the matchup. The German raced through the games and sealed the contest in less than one hour.
The two men have faced each other on three prior occasions, with two matches being played in the running year. They last met in Madrid two weeks ago, when Mayer won the exciting three-set thriller to eject Troicki out of the tournament
in the round of 64. The German registered his 24th victory of the current season and now leads their all-time head-to-head series by 3-1.
The hard-hitting German had a blasting start to the game, breaking the Serbian serve in the very first game. Mayer crafted six break opportunities in the contest and converted four of them en route to victory. The big German serve
remained unbroken in the entire contest, as Troicki failed to construct even a single break chance in the matchup.
Mayer got the lead early in the opener and consolidated it with his error-free tennis in the rest of the set. He reeled off 16 out of 19 serve points in the first set and was phenomenal with his return game as well. A second serve
break from Mayer in the seventh game left him serving for the set at 5-2. The opening set fell to the German’s name at 6-2 to lead the contest by 1-0.
Mayer got his required momentum form the first set and carried on to exert pressure upon the Serb in the following set as well. He stung two more serve breaks in the second set, while holding his serve throughout the second set
to reach the match point at 5-2.
A cracking forehand winner from the Mayer sealed victory for him at 6-2, giving Germany an excellent start at the Power Horse World Team Cup.
