Florian Vogel and Thomas Litscher dominate 2011 Swiss Cross Country Race
Scott-Swisspower MTB Racing team’s cyclist, Florian Vogel, won the Swiss Cross Country Men’s title with a total time of 1 hour, 43 minutes and 55 seconds, while his team-mate, Nino Schurter, finished second with a difference of 28 seconds.
Nino Schurter was the favourite before the start of the race, but he ended up in 10th place. Vogel was looking far better at the front and was attacked by Balz Weber and Lukas Flückiger. Weber finished third, while Flückiger at the fifth position.
Schurter crossed the finish-line with a crashed, but managed to win the silver medal.
Shurter said, “At the beginning, I was a bit tired from the World Cup racing. Riding those downhill without any brakes left was such a challenge that I almost started to like it. I knew everyone had the same problems. I’m happy for Florian that he is the
guy taking over my title. There is still one more jersey to win this year.”
Nathalie Schneitter of Colnago Arreghini Südtirol won the women’s title by beating the last year’s winner, Esther Süss of Wheeler-IXS Pro Team, as she won the second position. Marielle Saner-Guinchard was at the third position.
Thomas Litscher won Under-23 Men’s title with a good lead, as Matthias Stirnemann was second with a difference of 2 minutes and 8 seconds, while Jérémy Huguenin at the third position.
Lorraine Troung won the women's title for U-23 categories by clocking it in 1 hour, 26 minutes and 14 seconds, with Michelle Hediger at the second spot and Sabrina Maurer at the third position.
Junior Men's title was bagged by Dominic Zumstein of Scott-Swisspower MTB Racing followed by Lars Forster of Tower Sports-VC Eschenbach. It was Lars Forster who was leading the race alone and until Dominic Zumstein and Frischknecht attacked him from behind.
It was a close fight as Zumstein managed to score a win ahead of Lars Forster and Andri Frischknecht with a difference of 1 second.
Jolanda Neff of Wheeler iXS Swiss Team successfully defended her Junior Women's title as she finished the race 2 minutes and 2 seconds ahead of Andrea Waldis, while Linda Indergand bagged the third position.
