Florida Gators’ coach Urban Meyer blames practice on poor performances
Florida Gators head coach Urban Meyer blames his team’s lack of success on their poor practice habits. Meyer says his club has plenty of talent, but they are unable to execute at game time because of their lack of focus in practice.
The Gators have faltered down the stretch, as the club has dropped the last three games and now sits at 4-3 with a 2-3 record against conference opponents.
The Gators have had the most trouble on offence where they have been unable to execute their game plan. The squad currently sits 82nd in the nation in the passing game, averaging a mere 186.9 yards per game. Moreover, the Gators have struggled
on the ground, averaging only 142.1 yards per game. Overall the Gators are ninth in the Southeastern Conference and 89th in the nation on offence.
“When there’s a lack of execution, how does that occur?” said the head coach. “The answer is not to say, ‘That guy, that guy, that guy.’ Is it because we don’t practice it enough? Is it we don’t get them in that situation enough?”
The Gators have a long way to go if they hope to move up the SEC standings. The club has five games remaining in the season with two of them against Bowl Championship Series ranked clubs in South Carolina and Florida State. However, the team seems committed
to improving their practice habits and moving up the standings.
“You practice like you play,” said centre Mike Pouncey. “It’s something that we’ve been trying to key on this last week, executing a lot better than we’ve had and finishing. If you practice at half speed, that’s how you’re going to play.”
Florida will have to improve their play a great deal as they head into a key match-up against the Georgia Bulldogs in week nine. Georgia started off the season slowly, but has won their last three games and looks to have finally found their form.
Florida will meet Georgia at a neutral site in Jacksonville on Saturday 30 October.
