Florida Gators rout Jacksonville Dolphins 107-62: NCAA Basketball Recap
Florida Gators continued their impressive run in the NCAA Basketball Tournament 2011 on Friday night.
Playing at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center, the Gators collected their third consecutive win by thrashing Jacksonville Dolphins 107-62 and in doing so, improved their record to 4-1. Dolphins on the other hand, have dropped to 2-3
after this loss and need to sort out things quickly in order to advance further in the tournament.
In what was a totally one sided affair, Gators outclassed their opponents in every department of the game, which was already done and dusted by the end of 1st half as Gators managed to acquire a 20 point lead. The lead
only mounted with time in the ensuing passage as the Gators romped to a win.
Kenny Boynton marshalled the Gators with 22 points on a 4 for 7 shooting from downtown and 6 for 9 from the free throw line. Erving Walker was also monumental with 21 points and 6 assists. Brad Beal and Patric Young both put up
an all round show and nearly missed a double-doubles by scoring 15 points, 9 rebounds and 14 points, 9 rebounds respectively.
Russell Powell led the Dolphins with 15 points on 6 for 7 from the arc. Keith McDougald was the only other player from the team who managed to end with scores in double figures. He scored 12 points, pulled down 3 rebounds and dished
out 2 assists.
Dolphins started the game impressively with back to back three’s by McDougald and Chris Davis in reply to an opening layup by Gator’s Will Yeguete. They managed to maintain the lead till the first 5 minutes, however after that
it was all Gators, who erupted with a 19-2 run to get in front 28-10. 
Dolphins showed some fight and reeled off an 8-0 spurt to make it 28-18 however Gators responded immediately with another 13-1 run to make it 41-19 with 5 minutes remaining in the half. Both teams played some attacking basketball
in next few minutes, but the Gators finished the half with a massive 20 point lead 58-38.
An early 13-0 burst by Gators in the second half completely sealed the game to their side as the lead blossomed to 31 points. Cody Larson’s jumper propelled Gators to 100 points late in the half whereas Dolphins on the other side
had accumulated only 58 by then.
