Florida Marlins: Dan Uggla talks end, Detroit Tigers trade option appears
The action in Major League Baseball is picking up in recent days. The off-season may not be as entertaining as the regular ball games, but the top sides are doing their best to provide as much suspense as they can dish out. The San Francisco Giants may have clinched the World Series title this season, but the road to 2011 has just as soon, begun. The top ball clubs in the National League and American League are looking to capitalize on their situation and muster in as many players as they can when spring training goes into session.
The free agents filling the market are large in number and they highlight the top issue in baseball at the moment. Clubs are looking to bag in ace stars on the front of the agents’ list. Cliff Lee, Jayson Werth, Carl Crawford and Derek Jeter are the biggest names on the plate and as the time draws near for Thanksgiving, clubs are looking to draw in the best crop of choices for the coming season. On the other hand, the middle tier teams are hoping to do more with their financial structure as they are aiming to push down costs and open up channels for financing.
Florida Marlins have been under some serious problems recently. They finished 3rd during the last season and with a big push for glory in the long run, they are unable to preserve their current squad. Demands on wages are extremely high from players and one such individual who has done his best to make his interests known is none other than Dan Uggla.
The second baseman was recently offered a deal to extend his current contract for another 4 years with a compensation of $48 million. The offer was declined and talks deteriorated. Uggla however went on to say, “It has been the Marlins’ choice to stop negotiations. My team is still, wanting to negotiate. My career has been in Florida, and I want to stay in Florida.”
Now reports are coming in that the talks have absolved and the trade option can be utilized next year. The Detroit Tigers seem to need a second baseman urgently and they might come in July for a viable trade. With Carlos Guillen being a major concern for the side following his recent surgery on the left knee, the option could be effective if things do not go well in 2011.
