Florida Marlins: Regular season results – MLB June 2011
With an impressive 31-22 win-loss record, Florida Marlins were looking in supreme form. Edwin Rodriguez and his men were hoping to continue their incredible run in the month of June 2011 as well. But nothing lasts forever. The Marlins failed to live up to
the expectations and they disappointed their fans with their hopeless efforts in June.
In a four match series against Milwaukee Brewers, the Marlins were outplayed in almost all aspects of the game. Despite putting up a brilliant fight in game one, the Marlins were unable to get over the finishing line and the Brewers clinched a thrilling
6-5 victory. Similar pattern of play was observed in game two of the series as well. The Brewers, once again, held their nerves in a nail biting finish to take a 2-0 lead in the series.
Struggling to handle the pressure, Florida Marlins made critical mistakes in another tight finish in third game of the series and the Brewers completed an emphatic 3-0 series win. The Brewers dominated their opponent in the fourth and final game as well
to earn their first four game series sweep since August 2008. Marlins’ manager, Edwin Rodriguez was disappointed with the fact that things did not work out for his men during the series but he aimed to come back stronger in their upcoming games in the league.
"We have to regroup and go back to what we were doing before this series," manager Edwin Rodriguez said.
However, the Marlins were unable to find their lost form in their next three match series against Atlanta Braves as well. Losing all three games of the series, the panic button seemed to have been pushed within their camp. In game one, all of the hitters
were absolutely awful as the Marlins failed to put up a single run on the board. Losing five straight games with a one-run margin, Edwin Rodriguez’s side certainly lacked the mental strength and temperament.
Losing another close 3-2 encounter in the third game of the series with the Braves, the Marlins suffered from another embarrassing series sweep in front of their home crowd.
“When you go back, it's one pitch, one play, it's one something during the game," Marlins’ manager Edwin Rodriguez said. "That clutch hit never shows. Then again, they're battling out there. The intensity is out there. We need to keep playing with that intensity
until we get out of this."
With a much needed 6-4 win in game of a four match series against Arizona Diamondbacks, the Marlins finally managed to get their first win of the month. But the Diamondbacks won next three games to secure a comfortable 3-1 series win. The Marlins won only
four out of their next 13 games during the month as they struggled to come out of the crisis.
