Florida Marlins: Regular season results – MLB September 2011
Losing series to New York Mets, St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves, San Francisco Giants, Colorado Rockies, San Diego Padres and Cincinnati Reds, Florida Marlins had a forgettable time during the month of August 2011. Jack McKeon and his men were looking
to get things back on track with strong and consistent performances in the month of September 2011.
However, the Marlins made a poor start to the month as they were thrashed 5-3 in game one of a three match series against Philadelphia Phillies. It was a disappointing loss for the Marlins as they made a large number of unforced errors during the contest
to let their rivals take a 1-0 lead in the series.
"I'm getting tired of looking at this stuff," manager Jack McKeon said. "We're better than that. It's time to wake up. The fans deserve better, the organization deserves better. On the other hand, maybe they can't play."
Battling back, the Marlins showed great determination and mental strength in game two to keep the series alive. Breaking their losing streak with an impressive 8-4 win, the Marlins outclassed their opponents in almost all departments of the game. Mike Cameron
homered twice and Gaby Sanchez hit a go ahead three run shot to lift the Marlins to a deserving win.
"We've been on the other end of those bases on balls," Marlins’ manager Jack McKeon said. "Finally tonight, we got a couple in our favor."
The Marlins continued their great form in game three of the series as well and they held their nerves in a tense 5-4 win. Mike Cameron walked with two outs and the bases loaded in the 14th inning to let his side clinch their first series victory
of the month.
In the their next three match series against New York Mets, the Marlins got off to a brilliant start as they secured a comfortable 9-3 win in the opening game. However, Jack McKeon’s side were unable to deliver the goods in following two games to let their
opponents win the series 2-1. It will not be wrong to say that Marlins were unable to handle the pressure at crucial moments during the series, which eventually led to their downfall.
Losing series to Atlanta Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers and Washington Nationals, the Marlins ended the season with a poor 72-90 win-loss record. It looked as if the Marlins would have to go back to the drawing board after their dismal
performance during the season. The team will be looking to make a comeback in the 2012 season as they acquire a new stadium, a new name and some brilliant new players to start the year off right.
