Florida Marlins beat San Francisco Giants 7-6 in close game - MLB Update
The Florida Marlins romped to a 7-6 victory after a close confrontational second outing against the San Francisco Giants, at AT&T Park on Wednesday night, May 25 to take 2-0 lead in the three-game series.
Mike Stanton cemented the Marlins position 6-2, touching an RBI triple off Giants’ reliever Javier Lopez in the top of the ninth inning but the Giants retaliated in a great fashion. Pat Burrell hit an RBI double to cut the lead by two runs followed by another
double by Aubrey Huff, who levelled the score at 6-all, forcing the game into an extra inning.
The game remained scoreless in the tenth and the eleventh inning but the Marlins’ pinch-hitter Emilio Bonifacio playing for his first at-bat hit a sacrifice fly after Scott Cousins occupied third base on a line-drive by Omar Infante. Then in the bottom of
the inning, Burke Badenhop tossed un-playable pitch to take the Marlins’ to their 28th win of the season.
"I felt like he was blocking the dish. It's the go-ahead run to win the game, I got to do whatever I can to score," Cousins said. "I'm not trying to end anybody's season or anything like that. I just was trying to play hard and score the go-ahead run. He
did not say much and you could tell he was in pain.”
Though Marlins’ starter Chris Volstad gave an early 2-0 lead to the opposition in the first inning, relievers helped him to escape his fourth loss of the season. Relievers Mike Dunn, Randy Choate, Clay Hensley, Ryan Webb and closer Badenhop did not yield
any run while Edward Mujica and Leo Nunez each gave two runs over less than an inning spell.
Florida had achieved an early lead in the first inning due to an RBI single each by Gaby Sanchez and Mike Stanton, who touched shaky pitches off the Giants starter Madison Bumgarner. After allowing these runs, Bumgarner remained scoreless until the fifth
inning and by the time Andres Torres, the Giants’ centre-fielder, has tied the game at 2-all touching an RBI double in the third inning.
Bumgarner allowed another run in the fifth inning before handing the ball to reliever Ramon Ramirez. Bumgarner yielded three runs on eight hits, walked two and got four strike-outs over six innings.
Despite relievers Sergio Romo, Jeremy Affeldt and Brian Wilson threw scoreless inning, the World Series defending champions could not take the game back into their side as Lopez and closer Guillermo Mota both went wobbly in their spells. Perez gave a game
tying three runs while Mota received a defeat earning single.
