Florida Marlins bring an end to San Francisco Giants’ winning streak 5-1 - MLB Update
The Florida Marlins were successful in defeating the San Francisco Giants 5-1 in the first of the three match series at the AT&T Park in San Francisco on May 24.
The pitching that came from the Marlins side was quite a surprise for the Giants who have one of the best pitchers in the League in their own line-up. Although Tim Lincecum was not getting on the mound this time around, anyone could easily remember the memory
where the Cy Young winner left the audience and teams speechless as he retired 21 Oakland Athletic batters in their last series.
While Lincecum had his moments, the manager for Florida, Edwin Rodriguez was more than proud for his own pitcher as he said, "I think that was so far his best performance of the year."
Ricky Nolasco pitched flawlessly as he went on till the ninth inning without letting the Giants get a run up on the scoreboard. This game marked an abrupt halt in the reigning World Series Champions nine back-to-back home game winning streak. Nolasco left
the bases loaded with one player out in the ninth inning as Leo Nunez came and captured his eighteenth save which was a Major League high for this season. When he was on the mound, Nolasco managed to strike out five and sacrificed one run off seven hits.
The game kicked off as the first run was put up on the scoreboard in the third inning when Gaby Sanchez doubled to the deep centre-field and Chris Coghlan, Hanley Ramirez and Logan Morrison scored a run each. This gave them a good three run lead over the
scoreless Giants.
Mike Stanton was the only one who hit a home-run in the entire duration of the match. In the fourth inning he unleashed a massive homer that covered a distance of 410 feet.
The Marlins did not stop there, as Coghlan scored in the ninth inning once again as Sanchez moved to second base during a wild pitch which was sent his way by Guillermo Mota.
The only time the Giants could squeeze in a run was in the ninth inning. Miguel Tejada belted out a sacrifice fly to the centre-field as Buster Posey scored. This gave the Giants a measly one run compared to the five from Florida’s side which resulted in
their defeat and the Marlins victory.
