Florida Marlins defeat Colorado Rockies 6-5 – MLB Update
Anibal Sanchez pitched eight solid innings on Tuesday, August 16 to help the Florida Marlins beat the Colorado Rockies by 6-5 at Coors Field.
Sanchez put in a brilliant performance and won his first game since he last won in June 10.
"I waited for a long time that game," Sanchez said. "I'm excited for my No. 7." With the extraordinarily impressive performance that he put on display, Sanchez won the praise of all. While the crowd cheered his performance, he struck-out seven of the Rockies
hitters in the game.
"The guy has pretty good stuff. He has the good fastball and cutter and has a good sinker and he keeps his breaking ball down in the zone," Gonzalez said. "That's what makes it hard to get a hit off that guy."
The game on Tuesday was a rather aggressive display by the Florida Marlins. The offence sparked from the first inning and kept momentum throughout the game apart from the last week resurgence attempt by the Rockies whereby they scored two runs to get closer
to the Marlins.
Greg Dobbs scored the first run followed by a two-run RBI that Mike Cameron scored, tripling the lead for the Marlins as Jhoulys Chacin was unable to hold sway on the belligerent Florida offence.
Sanchez tossed a shut-out first but allowed two runs in the second inning as Troy Tulowitzki and Seth Smith scored a homer each to bring the Marlins lead down to 3-2. As the two pitchers tried to contain the respective offence, the Marlins sparked in the
fourth.
Emilio Bonifacio and Bryan Petersen scored a single each in the fourth to pile up the lead to 5-2 for the Florida Marlins as Chacin found himself in a respectively difficult position. But Carlos Gonzalez was quick to stage a comeback with a homer in the
fourth to bring the lead down to 5-3.
Sanchez, after that, seemed beyond the Colorado Rockies offence as none of them were able to capitalise on any of his pitches. With the defence remaining strong, Mike Stanton had a homer in the seventh to make it 6-3 for the Marlins.
Anibal Sanchez went into the eighth, allowing three runs. It was Leo Nunez who came as a closer in the 9th. Fell a bit weak, he allowed a homer to Jason Giambi, but Nunez kept his cool and sent other hitters packing to conclude the game with 6-5
victory for the Florida Marlins.
The Marlins put in a tremendous effort as they managed to restrict the Rockies’ offence from scoring in the crucial innings. The Rockies will be looking to improve their performance before their next match-up.
