Florida Marlins demote Logan Morrison – MLB News
The news is “disappointing” and “heartbreaking” but it seemed to have become inevitable, as the Florida Marlins on Saturday, August 13 went for demoting and optioning Logan Morrison to minors. This was a stun for the young player.
23-year-old Florida Marlins’ Morrison’s demotion came after the team lost 3-0 to the San Francisco Giants, the current Major League Baseball champions. While the fans would have found it a surprisingly big move in the ongoing season, Morrison himself was
quite shaken up.
"I was about to get treatment on my knee and my arm that I just left on the warning track, but I got called into the office right there," Morrison said. "I had no idea what it was. They said, 'We exercised the right to option you to Triple-A,' and I walked
out."
Having maintained a .249 batting average, Morrison was tipped to be of significant importance for the team in the days ahead as he is still young. Of the many things that would continue to bother the player, it is the decision’s coming at a time when he
was performing relatively well.
“They didn't say anything about maybe the reason why I was hitting .240 is because I was getting a guy in from third by rolling over ground balls and not worrying about average and just trying to get the run in," Morrison said.
Speculations were rife that he might have got a rebuke and subsequently this demotion due to his increased activities on twitter. Said to be quite a fan of twitter, his tweets might have irked many a people, but Morrison himself does not ascribe it to whatever
has come to pass.
A look at his statistics clearly shows that he has a decent record throughout the season, making him one of the vital parts of the Florida Marlins. The 6ft 3in player had played 95 games in the season with 362 at-bats.
Having had 90 hits with .327 and a batting average of .249 with 40 runs to his credit, having 17 home-runs and 60 RBIs, the figures themselves tell that he had the potential to do more for the team as the season proceeded.
While the Florida Marlins lag behind with only 56 wins to their credit, demotion of Morrison does not really bode well. While the team is considering announcing the corresponding roster before Sunday’s game scheduled to be played against the Giants, Morrison
has to wait for good times.
It will now be of great interest for the experts and fans alike to see what the next move of Marlins will be especially when they had chosen to not give Morrison any other chance.
