Florida Marlins lose their eighth straight game against the Atlanta Braves 3-2 - MLB Update
The Atlanta Braves were successful in handing the Florida Marlins their eighth consecutive defeat 3-2 at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida on June 9.
This was the last of the three game series in which the Marlins were swept by the Braves.
The Marlins suffered yet another embarrassing defeat, this one being their eight one in a row. The only good news in the entire duration of the game was that they somehow managed to steer clear of a shut-out, which would’ve just added insult to the injury.
At least the new hitting coach is doing his job right, when everyone else on the team has forgotten to perform.
The fact that out of their eight back-to-back defeats, seven of them have come by margin of a single run is definitely unsettling for the team. John Mallee, the Marlins’ hitting coach was fired after Florida lost seven consecutive games and Eduardo Perez
took over. Still Perez couldn’t help the sad numbers of the scoreboard and the inability of the Marlins’ players to move on the field.
Although the Braves win came by just one score which was anything impressive, it was their pitching that left everyone stunned and contributed significantly towards the win. The seven innings pitched by Jair Jurrjens were almost flawless. Jurrjens, who has
an 8-2 record let two runs pass him by off six hits and let absolutely no one walk throughout the duration of the seven innings.
Excellent pitching wasn’t the only contribution he made towards the game though. The game winning RBI that came in the seventh inning also came courtesy of Jair. He commented on his hit. “I put it in the right spot, and it was a big hit for us,” Jurrjens
said of his first run-scoring hit of the season. “
Alex Gonzalez commented on his team victory by saying, “We didn’t score many runs, but our pitching was tremendous this series, the starters and relievers. Let’s keep it going.”
The men from Atlanta were the first to make a mark on the scoreboard as Gonzalez doubled towards the left-field off which Michael Young scored in the sixth inning. The seventh inning witnessed two more runs being added to the scoreboard. The first one came
as Freddie Freeman scored and the next one came when the ace pitcher, Jurrjens’ single off which Brooks Conrad scored.
The only home-run of the game came courtesy of Mike Stanton of the Marlins in the seventh inning, as it covered a distance of 355 feet. Emilio Bonifacio singled in the same inning off which John Buck scored.
