Florida Panthers Erik Gudbranson working out again after Shoulder Injury -NHL Update
Frustration is widespread throughout the National Hockey League (NHL) during this time of the lockout, but the Florida Panthers and fans received some good news as Erik Gudbranson returned to working out after facing a shoulder injury earlier in September
of this year.
In his first workout on the ice at home ever since suffering the injury, it obviously was not easy to begin with, but at least it was a good start to a long journey and a recovery process that will be helped by the lockout.
"It felt really good to be out there. I'm a little surprised at how good it felt,'' Gudbranson said, according to the Miami Herald.
The injury came about due to wakeboarding, something he has apologized to his fans and teammates for doing.
"I wasn't hurt playing hockey. I have learned from my mistakes,'' Gudbranson added. "I needed to be honest with them. The players have been transparent during the lockout and I felt it was my duty to the Panthers to be transparent and honest with them. I
hurt myself and it was unfortunate. I learned something the hard way. But I'm everything I can to get back on the ice.''
The Panthers defenseman is a third overall draft pick of the NHL team during round-one of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft and has played in one season in the major league as of yet.
In 72 games played, Gudbranson put up eight points, out of which two were goals and six assists along with 78 minutes in penalty time. He also participated in seven playoff games as Florida had one of their best seasons up until now and went deep.
Gudbranson is currently on a three-year contract with the Florida Panthers to a three-year, entry-level contract worth a total of $2.7 million. He has an annual salary cap hit of $3.2 million as $2.3 million of that amount is in the form of potential bonuses
which can be earned during the season.
It will be interesting to see how the player rehabilitates in the upcoming days as he continues to practice and works towards getting back in form.
