Florida Panthers host the Detroit Red Wingsin their single meeting this season - NHL Previews
Another one of the interesting games of Friday is the Florida Panthers playing host to the Detroit Red Wings.
This is the lone meeting between the two sides and the last time they met was during the past season on 20th November 2009 which saw Panthers winning the game 2-1 after overtime.
Red Wings have come up with a dominating 6-2 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight. A game which saw they former player Steve Yzerman managing the Lightning and was expected to give them a tough time. However, this didn’t happen as the Red Wings dominated
the game scoring twice in each of the three periods to emerge as winners.
The Panthers season has been highlighted with ups and downs not only during the course of the season but also games. In their most recent game against the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday, they gave away three early goals. However, they manage to make their
way back into the game scoring twice. Unfortunately, Flyers scored once again to win 4-2 in the end. Panthers are in 12th spot in the Eastern Conference and if they manage to pile up some decent results then they have a chance of making it into
the play-offs.
The recent form that the Panthers have maintained play very well result in them losing ground on the teams above them and effectively knock them out of play-off contention. However, they have been given all they could but still haven’t got the results that
would ensure a spot in the final cut.
The Panthers have not only lost games on road trips but their lack of taking advantage from home games have hurt them a great deal during the season. The home-stand saw them playing seven games and disappointingly losing six.
The Panthers have played 56 games in the season so far out of which they have won 24 games in regulation time, seven games in overtime and scored a total of 55 points. On the other hand, Red Wings have played 57 games out of which they have won 35 games
in regulation time, six games in overtime to score 76 points and maintain second spot in the Western Conference.
Red Wings were starting to face the problem of lacking of scoring goals. They problem wasn’t in the play making as numerous chances were constructed but the front line failed to take advantage from it and in the end saw them lacking on goals.
However, they have not only got back on winning roads but have found a way out of those unproductive performances. Red Wings have caught the eyes on many scoring six times in their last game against the Lightning and scoring a total of 16 goals in their
last three games.
They have got a great of boost from the return of Pavel Datsyuk who plays in the centre for the Red Wings. He missed 19 games and since returning he has scored four goals and a total of seven points playing five games.
