Florida Panthers reward General Manager Dale Tallon with contract extension -NHL Update
One of the most remarkable turnarounds of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season was definitely that of the Florida Panthers and they know how to rewards those close to them as General Manager Dale Tallon was given a contract extension
on Wednesday, June 6, 2012.
From being one of the lowest ranked teams in the NHL, Florida Panthers not only made the playoffs the next season but also ended third in the Eastern Conference and atop the South Eastern Division against teams like Washington Capitals and Tampa Bay Lightning.
Florida Panther general partner, Cliff Viner, was the one to make the announcement about the contract, of which the financial details and length were not disclosed.
"We are very pleased to have agreed to a contract extension with Dale," Viner said. "Over the last two years, he has worked tirelessly to re-position our team and hockey operations department. Our team's success can be attributed directly to Dale's passion,
leadership and the motivation that he has instilled in our organization."
Their performance in the Florida Panthers was also remarkable and a step forward, which certainly showed Tallon’s dedication towards his franchise’s betterment.
"There was never any doubt that regardless of this I was going to give my heart and soul to this franchise," Tallon said. "But now it just gives us security and the ability to go forward and not worry about that, just do the right thing."
Florida had 94 points by the end of the season and continued to play hard to maintain their position as Washington Capitals were right on their tale. They faced New Jersey Devils in the opening round of the playoffs, but lost in a tight seven game series.
Looking back at their ousting by a team that is now in the Stanley Cup Finals and nearly beating them, Florida Panthers can certainly be proud of their accomplishments and in making fans even more so.
It will definitely be exciting to see how the Panthers perform next season and whether or not they exceed their performance from the past year.
Seeing Dale Tallon back in the front office is sure to have a positive effect on the team as they near the free agency and entry draft as well.
