Florida Panthers stay hot with third straight over New York Rangers 2-1 -NHL Match Update
Florida continued to see red as they took their third straight win over New York with the Panthers edging out the Rangers, 2-1, taking over the second number spot in the Eastern Conference with 27 points on Wednesday night, November 23, 2011, at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida, United States.
Tomas Fleischmann had a scary moment midway through the second period after taking New York’s, Andrew Deveaux’s elbow to the head, sending him for a medical evaluation after the incident.
Luckily, Fleischmann made a comeback later on after being cleared by the medical staff available in the stadium.
"He's such a skilled player -- it feels like he has it on a string out there," Jason Garrison said. "He does a lot of things that I stare at. For him, if I ever get a pass from him, I just try to make sure I know it's going to come to me at some point, so you've got to get ready for it."
Garrison added Florida’s first of the night midway through the opening period during their first power play opportunity with New York missing captain, Ryan Callahan, who was booked for roughing with a minor penalty.
Kris Versteeg extended the lead to, 2-0, in the opening minute of the following period, which would be their last and winning goal as Derek Stepan added the finalising shot of the night nearly three minutes later and failed to comeback in the remaining 36 minutes.
Jose Theodore was a big reason for Florida’s win as he managed to block 31 shots in the final two periods alone.
"He's a darn good goalie," Florida forward, Kris Versteeg said. "You've got to throw everything you've got at him. He's one of the best, if not the best goaltender in the entire League. We fired away at him tonight and we found a way to win, which is big for us."
Panthers have one more at home against the Tampa Bay Lightning before taking off for four straight while the New York Rangers will be looking to end their two-game slump when they visit the Washington Capitals on Friday.
