Florida Panthers veteran goalie Scott Clemmensen undergoes knee surgery, sidelined indefinitely –NHL
Florida Panthers lost one of their veteran goalies over the weekend as the club announced on Monday, September 26, that Scott Clemmensen underwent knee surgery, also revealing that he had gone through with similar procedures nearly a month ago, which has
sidelined him indefinitely.
According to doctors who performed surgery on him at the Doctors Hospital in Miami, Florida, he is expected to miss at the least, four to six weeks of playing time.
One thing confirmed at the moment is that he is much better than before and the medical staff also expects a full recovery to be made by the 34-year-old.
Panthers head coach, Kevin Dineen, could not make any confirmation on when he could be back on the ice.
“There’s amazing medical technology right now, so I’m very encouraged that he’ll come back 100 percent healthy”, Dineen told the Miami Herald. “As far as a timetable goes, it could be as long as a month. People heal at different rates. We’ll see how he is
when he comes out of this. ... I know he’s disappointed right now, but the month of October will slide right by and he’ll be back before we know it”.
Clemmensen, a former 215th overall draft pick during round-eight of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft by New Jersey Devils will be entering his third straight season with Florida Panthers after having spent a number of years with his original draft team
and Toronto Maple Leafs.
Not able to play the remaining preseason matchups and the most recent game against Dallas Stars on Tuesday, in which Clemmensen was scheduled to star, Florida Panthers will have to find another backup for their main goalie, Jose Theordore.
Up until the time he recovers, which might go well into October and a number of 2011-2012 regular season matchups, Florida could possibly be looking at rookie goalies, Tyler Plante and Jacob Markstrom to fill in the gap.
At the moment, coach Dineen has still not decided who he will play as his starting goalie on Tuesday against Dallas, but one thing for sure is that Clemmensen will eventually make a full recovery.
