Florida State Seminoles’ Christian Ponder still recovering from injury
Florida State Seminoles quarterback Christian Ponder is still recovering from a nagging injury to his throwing arm.
Ponder has been experiencing swelling and soreness in the elbow on his throwing arm, since his club’s game against the Boston College Eagles on 16 October. However, the swelling and soreness came to a head this week, forcing the youngster out of practice
on Monday 8 November.
Ponder has not missed a game due to the injury. However, it became clear early in the week that the youngster might not be able to play in his club’s week 11 match-up against the Clemson Tigers. Florida State’s head coach Jimbo Fisher said that they still
needed to run some tests on Ponder’s arm and they are not sure when he will be able to make it back to practice.
The injury to Ponder is a major one for the Seminoles, who since opening the season at 6-1, have lost their last two games and are now very close to losing their hold on the top spot in the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Atlantic Division. Moreover, the Seminoles
have to meet a Clemson side, which has looked resurgent in recent weeks.
After starting the season at 2-3, the Tigers have been able to battle back to a 5-4 record, and with a win over the Seminoles, could be tied for top spot in the Atlantic Division.
Making matters worse for the Seminoles is the fact that they have only beaten one team with a winning record all season and their three remaining games are against teams with winning records.
If Ponder is unable to make the start against Clemson, back-up quarterback E.J. Manuel is expected to get the ball. Manuel is a sophomore and has only played in three games so far this season.
So far this year, Ponder has managed 1,647 yards and 16 touchdowns.
