I live in downtown clearwater beach, Florida and I have a skimboard. But the problem is that it is a walmart. Does it really matter? I am a beginner and I don't really wan't a $450 skimboard. Just something to start out on, so does it really matter if I have a victoria skimboard or a walmart?

  1. Nah not really, as long as you can balance on it- its good..

  2. You don't have to get a $450 board, you can get a Zap for $120-$150. If you're having trouble on the board, I'd suggest going for a Zap (good beginner board). You might find that this is easier to balance on and perform tricks on. The walmart board though is probably okay for flatlanding, but if you want to go out on the real waves, I'd get a better board. If you start doing tricks on the waves on a walmart board, it might literally break in two, cause its' not made with the right wood to sustain the pressure of the water during tricks.

  3. I started out years ago on a crappy wooden board from one of those beach shops. It was perfectly good for a beginner to learn on. Once I got good and wore the c**p out of my wood board, I upgraded to a nice Zap.

  4. If you are a beginner, don't worry where you get it from, if it can stand up to a beginner, then go for it.
