Florida’s John Brantley ready for Saturday
Florida Gators’ offensive coordinator Steve Addazio has stated that starting quarterback John Brantley will be ready to go for Florida’s game on Saturday against LSU.
Questions regarding Brantley’s health began to arise when he was forced out of Florida’s loss to top-rated Alabama over the weekend. Brantley was sent to the locker room with a rib injury, but later returned to the game. Nevertheless, the injury looked to
be bothering him as he went 16-for-31 and threw two interceptions. Fuel was added to the fire when Gators tackle Marcus Gilbert stated that Brantley did not practice with the team on Sunday.
Despite the injury however, the Florida coaching staff and Brantley maintain that the youngster will be available against Louisiana State University. Brantley spoke briefly about the injury, saying. “I’m a little sore like any other game, but nothing major,
nothing that’s going to stop me from doing anything.”
Brantley has been a sound pocket presence for the Gators as they search for a quarterback to take over for former Heiman trophy quarterback Tim Tebow.
If Brantley is unfit to play on Saturday the job will fall to freshman Trey Burton. Burton was stellar in the Gators victory over Kentucky in week four. Nevertheless, Burton does not have a great deal of experience throwing the ball and was mostly part of
a wildcat offence the Gators were trying out in that game.
Burton has put together an interesting stat card, as most of his proficiency comes on the ground. The youngster has only attempted one pass this season, which was good enough for a 42-yard touchdown. Meanwhile on the ground, the youngster has notched seven
touchdowns, mostly due to the fact that he takes over the offence in red zone situations.
So far this season with the Gators, Brantley has thrown for 902 yards and six touchdowns.
